This project brings connectivity of users to the natural environment to create a deeper connection to their surroundings. The design uses irregular and curvilinear forms to emphasize site connectivity, while enhancing biodiversity, sustainability, and the overall well-being of the surrounding environment. The layout creates a multifunctional space that provides both unity and privacy. From the patio, a stone path transitions to the lawn and leads to a native-species rain garden, with swales and grading directing stormwater flow. Past the rain garden sits a Ginkgo tree with benches beneath — a quiet space for reading and reflection. The design balances recreational space for kids and a dog, environmental conscience, privacy, and social gathering. Strategic planting and grading turn site weaknesses (limited vegetation, recurring flooding) into strengths through natural barriers and bio-retention.
